Cobá je malá vesnička nedaleko od Tulumu na břehu místního jezera, kde na druhé straně se nacházení rozsáhlé majestátní ruiny. Jezero bylo pravděpodobně důvodem, proč se zde Mayové usídlili.
Cobá v mayském jazyce znamená „neklidná voda“. Mayští předchůdci se nepochybně inspirovali okolními pěti jezery.
Toto místo je tak rozsáhlé, že místní zde půjčují kola. Dva hlavní komplexy jsou od sebe vzdáleny přibližně 2 km. Velmi zachovalé je zde hřiště na pelotu (stará míčová hra).
